Midsouth Cultural Resource Consultants is owned and operated by J. Scott Jones. Dr. Jones obtained his bachelors degree from Middle Tennessee State University in 1992 and a masters of arts degree from Oregon State University in 1997. Dr. Jones completed his doctorate of philosophy at the University of Kentucky in 2018. 

 

Dr. Jones is a native of Middle Tennessee and is exceptionally familiar with the archaeology, history, and geography of the Midsouth. Dr. Jones specializes in Southeastern U.S. prehistory and Native cultures. Stone tool and prehistoric ceramic analysis are laboratory concentrations. He has worked closely with specialists in zooarchaeology, paleobotany, osteology, geomorphology, soil analysis, radiocarbon dating, and historical studies and architecture.

 

Dr. Jones has over 30 years of experience as a professional archaeologist and has successfully completed well over two hundred archaeological projects including all phases of investigation as well as cemetery and burial removal. He has also published articles in peer-reviewed academic journals and has presented numerous professional papers at regional and national conferences.
